Contamination is a very common issue when trying to sort waste into multiple recycling bins. It is creating issues in the downstream processing of recycling, and often results in recycling batches having to be sent to landfill.
Spare-it will come every month to your office to perform a visual waste assessment.
The goal of the visual waste assessment is to evaluate the level of contamination of each bin, therefore to have an idea if each waste stream in your office is correctly sorted. We will perform a visual check of each bin, take a picture and make comments about the potential sources of contamination. Based on this information, the Spare-it team will make an estimation of the contamination, which is the percentage of waste improperly disposed.

Contamination happens when an item is incorrectly sorted and should have been discarded in another bin. By identifying the nature of contamination and these specific items that end up in the wrong bin, we will be able to give you recycling tips and thus help you improve sorting and decrease contamination.

Spare-it will be able to track the evolution of the contamination along the challenge, analyse what the trends by waste stream are and compare contamination data from one tenant to another.

These monthly visual waste assessments will allow each tenant to reduce contamination, improve sorting and recycling along the challenge.
